Golden with Gloria

Gloria and I went out for a session during golden hour near the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. It has been a beautiful summer in Sacramento this year and we had some great quality light to make some photos. Gloria is an amazing model and a huge part of Blacksheep Studios. I’m always excited to collaborate with her whenever we can because I know we’ll always come up with something special. For this shoot I took my now trusty Leica Q3 out to get the shots.

I wanted an urban backdrop for our shoot and downtown Sacramento can definitely provide that look. Gloria and I met at the Kimpton Sawyer and began the session there. All around the hotel are little nooks and crannies that have some great aesthetics. The 660 sign really stood out to me and I thought it would make for an interesting background. Gloria did a number of different poses in front of it, but my favorite ones were the more melancholy looks. They certainly evoke a thoughtful vibe.

Just across from the sign were these metal doors. I thought the darkness of the doors and the bright pop of red Gloria was wearing was a nice contrast so we decided to shoot some shots there. Gloria was wearing some high heels, but to my surprise she suggested a little jumping action. I am always down for some action photos so she decided to do a few jump poses for me. I think the end results were excellent with a nice symmetry in the final photo.

Part of what makes golden hour so great is the light. I always love playing with the light from the sun, especially when it comes from behind. Gloria and I found a nice spot where the rays of the sun were coming down like you could touch them. I had Gloria reach out her hand to get a few shots of the rays of light. Lots of golden tones fill the photo above giving it a very warm feeling.

Gloria and I had an amazing session and I look forward to our next one. Keep an eye on the blog for more content from the both of us!
