Woodland High School Grads

Blacksheep Studios had the honor and privilege of being the official photographers for the Woodland Join Unified School District high school graduation ceremonies. We were able to cover three high schools - Pioneer, Cache Creek, and Woodland High. Our studios have covered many individual grad sessions, but nothing like this before so it was definitely special to be a part of. High school graduations are a huge deal, and the accomplishment is so important to so many people. Our goal was to get photos that captured the feel, energy, and emotion of the event. Luke covered the Pioneer and Cache Creek graduation ceremonies while Alex captured the Woodland High School ceremony.

The days of the graduation were gorgeous. It was warm with a festive mood all around. In order to really capture things properly I felt the need to have a longer lens. For these events I had two cameras strapped to me. One had the 24-70 G Master lens attached while the other had the 70-200 G Master lens on it. Because of the distances being shot, the 70-200 was by far the lens used the most. In terms of cameras, I went with the high resolution Sony a7rV. This camera has 61 megapixels so you know each photo will have an absolute ton of detail.

Woodland Joint Unified School District published the photos to their social media pages which broadcast the pictures to all the families in the district. It was amazing to see all the positive reception the photos garnered. We love doing graduation sessions and participating in these grad events was truly amazing. It felt like a natural extension of the grad sessions we usually do.

The smaller Cache Creek graduation was held inside the Pioneer High School Gym. Indoor photography is always a bit more challenging because the quality of light is not as good. Thankfully we have the camera gear to be able to handle any lighting situation thrown at us. As an event photographer, we had the chance to freely go all over the event space and capture the best photos possible. It’s important not to be self-conscious while photographing these events because as the photographer you really have to just get to your spots. Sometimes it can feel like thousands of people are watching you, but you just have to fight through those potentially jittery feelings and do the job.

Graduations and events like them are all about getting the best moments that occur. You always have to have your fingers ready to hit the shutter button when important situations happen. Like weddings, these moments happen in split seconds and there are no chances for re-dos. The photographer has to get the picture taken and taken well - that’s the expectation and I hold myself to this very high standard. Everyone at Blacksheep Studios of Sacramento has been tasked to go above and beyond to make sure our clients get the very best.

Alex covered the Woodland High School graduation as I was otherwise occupied. She impressed both me and the school district with the photos that she took. No matter who you ask to be your event photographer, the folks at Blacksheep Studios will get the job done. All the photos taken during the events were edited and delivered the next day. Talk about quick turn-around times!

We would like to thank Woodland Joint Unified School District for trusting us to capture all the best moments from all of their high school graduation events. We would be more than happy to return again in a year to do it all again! If you’re looking for any type of event or personal photography, please contact us! We’d love to schedule a session with you!
