Sailor Bar Maternity Session
Gracielle contacted me for a maternity session via Yelp and I was happy to oblige! I asked her if she had any particular place she wanted to have the session and she told me that she wanted to shoot at Sailor Bar park in Fair Oaks. I had never heard of Sailor Bar before, so I was pretty curious about what it would be like there. It’s been pretty hot this summer in Sacramento so we decided on an early 8am start time for our photo session. The weather was beautiful and the heat hadn’t picked up too much yet, so it made for a great shooting environment. Gracielle was joined by her husband and daughter for this shoot.
I was very impressed with Sailor Bar and the backdrops it provided for our session. It had gorgeous rolling hills, beautiful golden grass, as well as pops of greenery all around. Gracielle chose a light pink color scheme that complimented the environment nicely. It was easy finding places to create beautiful photos. We mostly stayed in one area of the park, but I later checked out a bit more of the area and saw that there was access to the American River. So if needed, we could have gotten some shots with the flow of water as well.
Gracielle’s entire family was great to work with. I was sure to get photos of Gracielle by herself as well as with her husband, daughter, and the whole family group. For this session I used just one lens - the Sony G Master 50mm 1.2 prime. This Sony lens is amazing wide open and creates a dreamy blurred background. The lens is super versatile and can do it all. It has been a go to for me for a while now. The lens is pricey for a 50mm prime, but I believe the price is worth it when it comes to this lens. I don’t think there is a better quality 50mm in all of Sony’s lens line up.
Sailor Bar is a location that I have in my head to return to now. I’m very picky about my session locations and this one offers viewpoints that you just can’t get anywhere else in the Sacramento area. If you’ve been to Sailar Bar, you know that is is absolutely gorgeous and worth a visit. If you’re looking to shoot a maternity or engagement session, I think this is the perfect place to go.
