Stunning Northern California Wedding

I’ve known Ashleigh for a few years now as we have come across each other’s path many-a-time at Anime conventions. Ashleigh and her twin sister Lindsey are top notch cosplayers who always dress to impress whenever they hit the con scene. As a convention photographer, I have shot numerous photos of Ashleigh and Lindsey. I was totally humbled when Ashleigh contacted me via my business site to shoot her wedding. It’s always surprising when someone I know from one area of my photography asks me to do something in another area - in this case from cosplay to wedding. It brings me great joy that Ashleigh would entrust this huge day to me!

Ashleigh and her soon-to-be-husband Josh had planned on getting married with a traditional ceremony and reception, but as with just about every wedding in 2020, plans had to change. Ashleigh and I were in constant communication with each other trying to nail down new times and places for her wedding day. She ended up booking an amazing house high up above Truckee, Ca to hold a small ceremony in. The bigger celebration would have to wait until the next year.

Though her plans changed, the big day was no less special. In fact, it was absolutely the perfect way to get married. I arrived at the mountain location at around noon and found Ashleigh and her wedding party just relaxing in their giant house. Rather than being rushed and stressed throughout the day, Ashleigh decided to just keep everything really chill. It was an amazing vibe and allowed me to really take my time and get some amazing shots of everyone at the location.

To celebrate their uniqueness, Ashleigh went with blue hair and a wedding dress with elven inspiration. Josh, a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons and table top games had dice on his suite rather than the traditional flowers. The couple really did do things their way - and I applaud them for that because it made their wedding really a day for themselves.

The house had four levels with each level completely decked out with amenities. There was a full bar, a movie screening room, multiple living rooms, conference areas, hot tub, and rooms upon rooms upon rooms. It was a spectacular location to shoot and I was glad to have pretty much my entire arsenal of cameras with me for the day. It’s exciting to bring out lots of different lenses and camera bodies to create photographs that really stand out from each other.

California had been on fire in many locations and smoke was still hanging around where we were, but we were able to make the best of it. You can see the smoke in some of the images we took, but I feel that it didn’t distract from the overall look of the pictures. The most important thing was that everyone was safe in this heavily forested area of Northern California.

The wedding was simple and emotional with the loving couple saying their vows to each other above the trees. What an amazing backdrop to get married in front of!
