Julie & James' Wedding at the Courthouse

This was a last minute hire by the happy couples’ friend Julia. Julie and James were going to have a very low key marriage at the Woodland, Ca courthouse, but Julia wanted them to still get some great images to remember the day. She found me online and asked if I could be the photographer that day and I happily obliged. The area outside the courthouse has a very rustic look with many beautiful brick buildings, so we decided to do a little session there.

The only people to attend the ceremony were Julie and James’ immediate family and couple friends. It was a very small event - but a very joyous one for all who were there. Funny story - Julie’s champagne glass was missing the bottom so it couldn’t be set down. I photoshopped a bottom on her glass in every edited photo that included it so it wouldn’t look strange. If you check out Julie’s glass in the photo above, you’ll notice that her glass looks perfectly normal!

Even though the wedding and photo session lasted just a little over an hour, I still tried to get as much photographic content as I could for them. In total we were able to get close up images like the photo above, group shots of all the people who attended, as well as beautiful photos of the newlyweds together.

Some of the photos we took were a bit staged - as is what happens at many weddings. In this photo Julie’s friends made an archway for them to go under as if they were walking toward a large crowd at their wedding. I think they were able to pull off the look rather convincingly! The photo was actually taken at the Woodland Public Library. Can you tell it’s a library? I hope not!

Here’s a wider shot of the Woodland library with Julie and James. I did quite a bit of photoshop work to this image to get it cleaned up. I removed a few of the signs on the sidewalk as well as the Woodland Public Library sign. I hope it just looks like a beautiful building that held the wedding that day.

I’ve done a handful of courthouse weddings now and I absolutely love giving wedding couples the best imaging that is possible. Sometimes courthouse weddings can be pretty plain, but great images can help you recall that day with fondness. If you’re in need of a photographer for your big day, contact me and we’ll discuss imaging plans for your wedding!
