Jackie's Portrait Photoshoot

Jackie and I have shot before and I was glad that we got a chance to shoot again recently. She has a fantastic look and came ready to create great images with two different outfits. Our shoot took place in a large park in Natomas. I don’t shoot in Natomas too often, but I really enjoy this area as there is gorgeous natural scenery including some waterscapes. There were quite a few people fishing that day so we didn’t do much with the water, but there was plenty of great backdrops for us without it.

Whenever I do a portrait or modeling shoot, I try to get as many looks as possible. I take it upon myself to direct the subject as much as possible. No matter if someone is well seasoned or completely new to modeling for the camera, directions from the photographer are always appreciated. I pride myself on being able to help guide the people I photograph to look their best. I can’t imagine a model just standing there posing without any word from the photographer - that’d be so awkward!

Jackie took direction very well and was a trooper to get the shots to look great. Probably the hardest thing to do was lie on this grass because it was a bit hard and prickly - but she did it - and with a smile! You can’t see me in this photo, but by the angle, you can probably tell that I had to lie in the grass too to get this low shot. Sometimes you just have to get in the trenches if you want those specific angles!

Capturing perfect moments and expressions is what I love to do, and thankfully we don’t shoot with film anymore. I spend so many frames just trying to find the very best image I can possible get. I think that people have a thought that professional photographers just click the shutter button once and get the exact photo they are going for. That’s not the case at all! Shooting in bursts is so useful and gives me the opportunity to really hand select the very best image.

Using the environment to our advantage is another way to help the images we get be special. Simple things like finding a flower nearby can give that little extra to push a picture to a greater height than it would have been otherwise. Looking around and being aware of the surroundings is something that you’ll always see me doing during a photo session.

I had such a fun and wonderful time with Jackie! I’m sure we’ll be getting together in the near future to do another shoot. If you’re looking for portraits, headshots, or photos for modeling, please let me know! We’ll book a session and get shooting!
